Mission

Struggle, Strength, Reclamation
Lyrics by Leslie Benson, 2010

I am filled with love stories
and inconsistence.
I am a free spirit tied
to indecision.
I am the girl with ring-less fingers.
I am a rhyme-keeper, but
not of reason … reason.

When the odds are against me,
I don’t care if they’re risky.
Lay it all on the table;
I bet high when I’m able.

I don’t come with instructions.
I move in all directions.
I may make bad decisions,
but I’m on a mission.

I am blinded to
my better judgment.
I am free of baggage, but
not disappointment.
I am changing with every season.
‘Cause I am on a higher mission,
a mission.

When the odds are against me,
I don’t care if they’re risky.
Lay it all on the table;
I bet high when I’m able.

I don’t come with instructions.
I move in all directions.
I MAKE BAD DECISIONS,
but I’m on a mission!

I’m on a mission!

About the Song

Taking risks may not always pay off, but sometimes it’s the attempt that matters most.

“People will always tell you how to live your life and what milestones are supposed to make you happy,” says singer-songwriter Leslie I. Benson. “But the truth is—babies, marriage, a corporate job, a house with a white picket fence, and a hybrid car is not for everyone. For those of us who wear our heart on our sleeve, we are forever searching for more and testing the boundaries of what’s possible.”

“Just because you hit a certain age, doesn’t mean you’re ready for the same life circumstances and goals as someone else,” Benson continues. “Be true to yourself and your own dreams. Trust your intuition; trust your internal ‘clock.’”

For a Libra who has ridden the fence and weighed the scales on everything from hair color to her love life, it’s evident that for her, the only constant is change. “We create our own realities.”
