The Price of Love

The Price of Love

Struggle, Strength, Reclamation
Lyrics by Leslie Benson, 2011

I have my regrets—
the times that I failed you,
but I know inside my heart
I’ve done all I can to
pay my dues.

Don’t you understand
the price of love?
Don’t you understand
the price of love?

Don’t need no sympathy,
’cause I’m in good company.
I may have lost you,
but I’ve still got me!

Don’t try to simplify
the reasons we said goodbye.
I know I couldn’t stay,
’cause choosing you would be
killing me!

Don’t you understand
the price of love?
Don’t you understand
the price of love?

Don’t need no sympathy,
’cause I’m in good company.
I may have lost you,
but I’ve still got me!

Everyone …
comes into your life for a reason…
Some will make their mark …
carve it into your heart.

So when you’re lonely,
I want you to think of us.
Though you may miss me,
The price of love is … going up!

Don’t you understand
the price of love?
Don’t you understand
the price of love?

Don’t need no sympathy,
’cause I’m in good company.
I may have lost you,
but I’ve still got me!

About the Song

There are times in our lives when it’s better to be alone than to force yourself to be with someone else. To walk away from a relationship isn’t easy, but it can be the best way to grow as a person and to solve innate problems between two people. As hard as we try to fight for what we call “love,” sometimes we are blinded by how we believe we are supposed to feel instead of the truth. It’s okay to be alone. It’s okay to want more. It’s time to love yourself for who you are.
